University courses

After college I’m not completely sure of what I’ll do but I’m considering university as an option. I would be interested in doing a photography related course like media. I found a course at Plymouth University called Media Arts which would include photography and media.

I would be interested to look further into this course as I like both photography and media.

Skills fair

I recently went to the skills fair at Bath College where there were stalls from all different companies and courses that gave you an idea of what they are about. There wasn’t anything that interested me because they were mainly businesses and there wasn’t anything to do with photography. There is a HE fair next Thursday, which I am thinking of going to. This gives me the options for University and I will be able to gather information about different uni’s.

The Interview Doctor

I watched a film called ‘The Interview Doctor’ which showed 2 people who had just left school and were going for an interview at the same job. It compared what went wrong during their interviews and then told them how to improve it.
In the interview Kevin turned up late, this gives a bad impression as it shows he’s not taking it seriously.
Vicky wasn’t very confident. When the interviewer came to meet her, she didn’t give any eye contact, her shoulders were slumped, nervous hand shake and she didn’t say much.
Kevin didn’t dress appropriately. He turned up in clothes that looked like he would wear to meet his friends. This shows he didn’t put much effort or thought into the interview and he didn’t want to make a good impression.
Vicky smelt like cigarettes which could be off putting if the interviewer was a non smoker.
They both didn’t do any research into the job or company as when it came to say what they thought the job entailed, they didn’t know and they were both guessing.
At the end Kevin didn’t shake the interviewer’s hand and he just got up and walked out without saying goodbye or thanks for interviewing me. This doesn’t look good and comes across as rude.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing about the job vacancy that is available, Part time Family Photographer on Sundays for the Bath and Bristol area. I am currently studying Level 3 Extended Diploma Photography and I am in Year 1.

I have very good communication and people skills, which would be great when it comes to talking to families and making them feel comfortable around the camera. I also have experience with cameras and different lenses and equipment from being on a Photography course. If there was anything I didn’t know, I am able to pick up skills and learn new things very quickly.

I enjoy lots of types of photography but particularly like Portrait and Family portraits as I feel you can get a real connection between families and it shows the closeness of them all.

As well as the main job, I also think I could bring a different style of photography to the team. I like other types of photography so could do a range or mix to make my photographs unique and interesting.

Thanks for taking the time and consideration in reading my letter. I hope that I can become a part of the close team you work with.

Yours sincerely

Cerys Lambert
